La Familia Medical Center (LFMC) is a community health center treating the underserved in Santa Fe County. Under the guidance of a local and autonomous board of directors, which includes patients of the health center, LFMC offers a wide range of community services and outreach. Current staff includes board-certified family physicians, board-certified OB/GYNs, family nurse practitioners, as well as physician assistants, promotors, therapists, social workers, and dentists. The clinic offers a strong and nationally recognized health education program for its patients. LFMC has been the primary continuity clinic since the inception of the University of New Mexico – Santa Fe Family Medicine Residency Program. It has been providing high-quality and comprehensive care to the underserved for over 40 years.
CHRISTUS St. Vincent Family Medicine Center (FMC) opened in July 2012 to serve as a second continuity clinic site. The mission of the FMC is to provide full-spectrum, family-centered care to the community and train the next generation of family medicine providers. Services provided in the FMC include: primary care, same-day sick appointments, newborn and pediatric care, minor office procedures, maternity pregnancy care, women’s services, lab services, and integrated behavioral health care.
CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center (CSV) is a non-profit community hospital with 268 beds and more than 300 physicians representing 22 medical specialties. The largest hospital north of Albuquerque and south of Pueblo, Colorado, CSV admits more than 10,000 patients annually. Additionally, 11,500 are treated as outpatients and 5,000 other patients come for same-day surgery each year.
Other training activities of our program reach beyond the confines of the clinic and hospital settings. Dedicated to community interactions, specialty rotations are provided in the offices and clinics of community practitioners, and experiences in rural areas are required. The central offices of the New Mexico Department of Health are located in Santa Fe, along with a very active district health office that serves the northern region of New Mexico. This combination of educational resources for population-based health education makes the Santa Fe site especially rich in public health education opportunities.
University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a tertiary care center, Level I trauma, academic and referral center for the entire state. As a “safety-net” hospital, it cares mostly for uninsured and under-insured of the state. It has been serving the community since 1954, growing to now having 550 inpatient beds. The Department of Family & Community Medicine has its own admitting service and patient care unit. Our interns receive their first year of training at UNMH, receiving support and mentoring from faculty in the Department of Family & Community Medicine as well as benefiting from interactions with many other specialists and residency programs.
