Our Family Medicine Residency Curriculum
As a 1+2 residency training program, most of intern year (PGY-1) training occurs at the University of New Mexico facilities in Albuquerque alongside residents from the family medicine and other Albuquerque-based residency programs. Three of the four-week rotations during intern year (PGY-1) will take place at CHRISTUS St. Vincent in Santa Fe: medical intensive care unit (MICU), inpatient/hospitalist, and the La Familia Obstetrics Service. Your transition to full-time work in Santa Fe takes place at the beginning of second year (PGY-2) with a three- to four-week orientation block. Second- and third-year (PGY-2 + PGY-3) training are spent in community settings in Santa Fe and in outlying communities. The curriculum is predominantly composed of individual rotations, but you can expect some longitudinal educational experiences. The continuity clinic provides patient panels for each resident. The intention is to expose each resident to a successful community clinic setting, which reflects a holistic approach to health care.
Second- and third-year (PGY-2 + PGY-3) rotations allow flexibility in scheduling to meet the program requirements as well as plenty of elective time for individual resident interests and career needs. Residents consult with the program director and administrative staff when selecting these rotations.

Elective Rotations
Second- and third-year (PGY-2 + PGY-3) residents are allowed two away rotations and one home elective rotation per year (lasting four weeks each).
Examples of away and home elective rotations include the following:
